Watch! Think! React!
The Queensland Edition of the Australian International Animation Festival returns to Cairns for its 4th yearly tour program, with a selection of some of the best animated films screened at the 17th Melbourne International Animation Festival.

The program comprises 27 films from 15 countries, showcasing the best in Australian and International independent animation from the competition categories of the Melbourne International Animation Festival 2017. This selection of films are thought provoking, humorous, hilarious and at times down right bizarre! They reflect the extraordinary scope of topics, techniques and genres that makes the world of animation so rich and exciting.

9 WAYS TO DRAW A PERSON by Sasha Svirsky, was awarded by the jury with Best In Festival, for its masterful use of abstraction, collage and hand drawn animation, to tell nine short unexpected stories of how a person can be depicted. TORNADO, created by Sun-Min Lee, Richard Chhoa and Victoria Dinh in their Honours year at the University of Technology, Sydney, received Best Australian Animated Short, for the skilful artistry used to convey the importance of communication between adults and children. Caroline Jiang was awarded Best Australian Student Film for FLIES IN MAY, a horrific depiction of a girl whose body is taken over by a monstrous parasitic maggot. Audience choice awards went to CHILD by Linus Stetter, Viktor Stickel and Iring Freytag; DEAD AHEAD by Donal O’Keeffe; THE SPARROW’S FILGHT by Tom Schroeder and GHOST SQUAD by Kieran Sugrue.

Please be advised that the following program contains adult content, coarse language, some violence, horror and nudity.

IMPORTANT: Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over, depending on the content of the program. Most festivals do not have the resources to formally classify their programs and it is for this reason alone that AIAF has an 18+ age restriction.
