The 2017 Ozanimate Industry Survey results are in! Find out how you measure up to the rest of the AUS/NZ Animation Industry.

In November of 2017 Ozanimate launched a first of its kind survey asking all individuals working in the Australian and New-Zealand Animation Industries to anonymously participate and share their details, experiences, earnings, frustrations and aspirations. The community response was amazing and we collected over 600 replies!

This common effort means that we are now able to get a better idea of the state of our Animation Industry. Massive thanks to all the Freelancers, Studio Owners, Students, Employees and Educators who all generously contributed to the data found in this Survey! Below is an infographic we created in order to summarize some of the key points and information that emerged from the replies and data we collected. We will be soon releasing more resources such as an interactive tool to find out hourly/daily rates and yearly salaries but meanwhile, sit back grab a drink and happy scrolling!

Disclaimer: While the information below is presented as accurately as possible, it is important to note that as with any online survey the data presented cannot be taken as a definitive source. All figures are in AUD (Australian Dollars) and before tax.

Woohoo! You made it to the end of the 2017 Ozanimate Industry Survey Results. If you have any questions that you’d like to add for this year’s Survey, send them through to info@ozanimate.com and we’ll include them in the next survey.

Overall this data was super interesting to put together. What are your thoughts? Any surprises, numbers or statements that stood out to you? Leave a comment below and let’s get the conversation started.

  • Nice work! I’m foreseeing that gender difference will change dramatically in the next couple of years.

Incredibly thorough and great info – thank you ! Staf, Kitset Grafix

  • Thanks Guy! Definitely hoping that this will improve in the coming years.. Will be keeping an eye on those numbers… Especially on that 15% female studio owners figure, which is quite a shocker! Would be interesting to see if there is much salary differences in general between genders.

  • Cheers Staf! Glad you found it useful. Lots of work to put together but a good reference to have now!

  • Just had a look at overall average salaries differences by gender:
Employees: 51k Female compared to 68k Male
Freelancers: 49.5K Female compared to 65k Male
